What kind of workshops ?

The Diaspora Kollektiv workshop offers a unique exploration of artistic expression centered around the theme of diaspora experiences. Participants engage in creative activities such as collage-making, delving into the physical sensations of pleasure, and connecting with their inner creative voices. Led by skilled facilitators, the workshops foster a safe space for self-reflection and exploration of diverse perspectives. Through these hands-on experiences, participants gain insight into themes like identity, belonging, and personal boundaries. The workshop series aims to create a vibrant platform for artistic dialogue, inclusivity, and the celebration of the rich tapestry of diaspora stories.

Collage Workshop: What does the experience of pleasure look like to BIPOCQ bodies?

Through collage creation and guidance, you'll have the opportunity to connect with your inner creative voice and create a visual representation of the physical sensations associated with pleasure. What does it look like to connect with your body? Which senses do you experience pleasure through? What are the limits you set upon yourself or that are set on you?

Using a variety of collage materials (textile, colour paper, markers and magazines ) and personal items (anything from a favourite food packaging to a selfie), you'll have the freedom to express your own unique experience. Come away from this workshop with a tangible reminder of the pleasure you've explored and a deeper connection to your body. Don't sleep on this one-of-a-kind experience fam!

Collective Braiding workshop by Marie Cole

"Collective braiding" emerges as more than a creative activity; it's a ritualistic engagement designed to foster care, mindfulness and communication. Rooted in the intention for collective well-being, this series of shared moments uses rhythmic communication as a means to record movement, connections, and time. The technique involves interlacing three or more strips of textiles, each representing a unique thread of experience, creating a collective artwork that symbolises the interconnectedness of participants.

Beyond the aesthetics, the overall objective of "Collective Braiding" goes deeper. It seeks to explore and imagine a space for those denied access to pleasure due to systemic oppression. The act of braiding becomes a metaphor for weaving a supportive space where the denied and oppressed can find rest, creativity, and connection.
Through a simple yet impactful act of braiding, participants engage in a shared narrative that speaks to the possibility of creating welcoming spaces for pleasure and well-being.
